FAQ

ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION

  • Ahimsa is a Sanskrit word that translates to non-violence, non-harming and non-injury of every living being. It is a personal practice that can help to guide how you show up in the world. Learn more here.

  • Ahimsa is a millennia old concept rooted in ancient lineages (Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Yoga) that carries as much relevance in modern times as it did thousands of years ago. If we strive to evolve as a collective society across contrived borders, we must do so with kindess, love and respect for all beings.

  • Ahimsa 501(c)(3) was started by Evan Scharfeld of Lakewood, OH in 2026. At the time of its inception Evan was feeling powerless as he witnessed, what felt like, the destruction of our society and the disintegration of love for all humankind. It was these challenging times that led Evan to create the Ahimsa organization - to help spread this concept to people who may not currently be involved in traditions that already hold the concept as a core tenet (Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Yoga). Evan truly believes that when we commit to our own self-care and intentionally welcome peace into our lives, we have the potential to make significant change across our shared communities.

  • In no way do you need to donate to Ahimsa 501(c)(3) to support our mission. The most powerful thing you can do is take the pledge and share our story. Any donations we do receive support out operational costs (website, mailings, etc.) and any funds leftover will be distributed quarterly to other civil rights/humanitarian organizations across the globe - selected and voted on by everyone who has ever donated to Ahimsa 501(c)(3).

  • Any information that is collected on our website via the Pledge form and/or the Donation form (name, email, payment info) is all stored within a secure Squarespace server that hosts our site. Only one person has access to this data in order to run reports, organize donation redistribution votes and process mailings: Evan Scharfeld.

  • You information is stored on secure Squarspace servers and will never be shared in any way with anyone or any other organizations. The only data that will be shared publicly is a tally of the total amount of people who have taken the Ahimsa pledge and the total amount of donations that we have raised and redistributed.

  • At the end of each quarter (3/31, 6/30, 9/30, 12/31) any funds remaining after operational costs for the organization are covered (website, donor pins, etc.) will be redistributed to other well-established civil rights/humanitarian organizations across the globe. Each quarter, a selection of 3 organizations, recommended by the Ahimsa community will be put to a vote. Everyone who has donated to Ahimsa 501(c)(3) to that point will receive 1 vote each and a simple majority will determine which organization receives the funds on behalf of the Ahimsa community.
